With the sponsorship and active collaboration of ICCO (International Cocoa Organization) and of Fair Trade, for the fifth year running here comes Eurochocolate World, the special international edition dedicated to cocoa producer States, it too revisited under the Play Chocolate theme. One of the new ingredients of Eurochocolate World 2008 is the entry of Blu Panorama airlines vectoring the trip around the world of cocoa.
International Forum: “In the Hearth of Chocolate 2008” – 22 October – Palazzo Cesaroni, 9.30 a.m.
The main item of the working agenda of Eurochocolate World 2008 will be held on 22 October: the Forum Internazionale sulla Qualità del Cioccolato (International forum on the quality of chocolate) “In the Hearth of Chocolate 2008” – Dagli ingredienti all’etica passando attraverso l’ambiente: cosa chiede il nuovo mercato (From ingredients to ethics via the environment: the demands of the new market).
As a meeting place for cocoa producing and consuming countries, the aim of the forum is to identify strategies and actions capable of increasing the quality of cocoa and of chocolate and at the same time in compliance with environmental, social responsibility, transparency and production chain traceability issues.
Via the Summit, Eurochocolate World also seeks to become an effective tool for dialogue and discussions on international issues, focussing on developing countries and giving them a voice, with a view to expanding the drive for economic and social support.
Development assistance, however, requires knowledge. This is why Eurochocolate World offers its public a wide and transversal variety of parallel events, i.e. a tasty opportunity to increase its awareness of the cocoa and chocolate scenario.
“Di bene in meglio” - Tavola Rotonda(“Better and better” – Round table) – 22 October - Palazzo Cesaroni, 9.30 a.m.
Next to the summit will be held the round table “Di bene in meglio - Stessi obiettivi ma strade diverse: i protagonisti del mondo del cacao equo e solidale a confronto” (Better and better: same objectives but different approaches: the actors of the Fair Trade Cocoa world meet), around which the main actors of the Fair Trade Cocoa world meet in a debate that will help consumers find their way.
CocoAction – 18-26 October
The same cocoa producing countries will also participate in daily moments of local culture through CocoAction, bringing their music, their dances and the typical performances of their homelands. Every day, the colours and sounds from Africa and Latin America.
Equoscuola(Fair Trade at school) - 18-26 October – Ex Borsa Merci
For elementary and junior high-school students comes Equoscuola, with its mini-lessons on Fair Trade cocoa and chocolate. This year, though, as homage to Play Chocolate, the Ex Borsa Merci area will also host, at the same time, the permanent exhibition ‘Nanauà per le vie del cacao’ (Nanauà along the cocoa paths), an educational itinerary created by Associazione Così per Gioco in collaboration with Eurochocolate. Using five play/educational installations, the little boy Nanauà leads the students in the discovery of cocoa, from the time of the Maya to the present day, after which he illustrates its nutritional properties and gives suggestions on the correct consumption of chocolate, while touching upon how it is transformed and produced. The guided itinerary is animated by expert instructors who will involve the children in educational and game activities directly connected to the contents of each exhibition stage.
The rich programme of Eurochocolate World also includes stations for the live production of chocolate and Chocotasting sessions, i.e. daily tastings of different chocolates from around the world, conducted by expert testers illustrating the characteristics of the best cocoas and chocolates in the world.
