The highway which crosses the region of Lugano connects northern Europe to the Mediterranean. From Milan: highway A9 ("Autostrada dei Laghi"), direction Como-Saint Gotthard or highway A8, direction Varese-Stabio (Gaggiolo). Suggested exit: Lugano SUD. From Zurich: highway A2, direction Saint Gotthard-Chiasso-Italy. Suggested exit: Lugano NORD. A road tax stamp must be purchased at the Customs house and stuck on the windscreen in order to be allowed to drive on Swiss highways.
